Who We Work With
Occupational therapy is extremely versatile and can help people of all ages to overcome barriers to their function. These barriers could be due to accident, injury or illness (including mental health). Occupational therapists are dual-trained in mental and physical health, this holistic approach ensures that therapy covers all aspects of a person’s life and not just their physical symptoms. Our therapists have a wealth of experience to increase an individual’s resilience, stamina and productivity, by using evidence-based techniques and the most up-to-date clinical standards to ensure therapy is bespoke and successful.

Here at KMA we receive a wide variety of referrals from private self-referrals, to insurance companies, law firms and HR personnel. Our occupational therapists have worked with clients who are employed by a range of companies including major retailers, global corporations and insurance providers. In the case that an employee unable to work due to ill health our role is to act on behalf of the individual and also their employer to ensure a clear, transparent way forward that will both support both parties with the view to get the individual back to work in a safe, successful and sustainable way. Sometimes reasonable adjustments are required and other times it is a case of the occupational therapist working with the client to build up their mental, physical and emotional health to get back into work with minimal risk of going off sick again.
Did you read our previous blog about how we worked with a solicitor to get a client back into work following a life-changing injury – read it here.
To give you an example of just how varied our role is please see below anonymised examples of clients that we helped to return to work:
- A medic who had been unable to work for 18 months due to burnout and then lost their confidence
- A high-flying lawyer was off work with a medical condition that caused immense pain
- A chief executive who was out of work due to a spinal cord injury
- Head of HR who was not performing at work due to clinical depression
- An engineer who was in a road traffic accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury
- A warehouse operator who had undergone a below-the-knee amputation due to an accident
- A business owner with PTSD which was causing debilitating effects on all aspects of their life
