How to stay cool, calm and collected this Christmas

As that time of year approaches again, I’m sure you are busy with shopping, present wrapping, cooking, cleaning, socialising, school nativities, you name it – the list goes on.

Maybe you love the mayhem and excitement and are trying to embrace it all, or maybe you are just waiting for it all to be over – but whatever your stance on Christmas, we have some little tips to help you get through the holidays.

Tip 1:

Breathe!

Okay I know this is a tip that perhaps you’ve heard a million times but taking two minutes away from the madness to focus on your breathing can really make a world of difference. We recommend taking a deep breath in through your nose for 4 seconds, and then exhaling through your mouth for 4 seconds. Repeat this three times.

Tip 2:

Move your body.

Even if it’s just to walk to the dog for ten minutes, moving your body is vital to our mental and physical wellbeing. Over Christmas it’s easy to get caught up with socialising, eating and drinking (which is what Christmas is about). But ensuring you move your body for at least ten minutes every day during the Christmas holidays, will make you feel good and less likely to feel overwhelmed when you get back into your normal routine.

Tip 3:

Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate.

Water is your best friend and will be, throughout the often, very boozy Christmas period. As alcohol dehydrates you, it’s more important than ever to get your two litres of water in! Plus, a hangover is never nice…
If you can’t keep track of how much water you have been drinking, get yourself one of those 1 litre water bottles. Simple!
